Doomsday evangelist Harold Camping passed away in his California home on 15 December – without seeing the world ascend to heaven. He passed away at the age of 92 from a fall. You might remember that Harold Camping is the man who swept everyone into a frenzy by predicting the world would end on 21 May 2011.
So convinced was the self-taught Armageddon preacher that the world would end, he sparked an international media frenzy. Mr Camping formulated his doomsday hypothesis through complex mathematical equations and ‘clues’ hidden throughout the Bible.
His 21 May prediction was plastered on more than 5,000 Billboards throughout America and he had 100 million ‘Save The Date’ pamphlets printed in 61 languages.
When the world didn’t end on 21 May, Mr Camping wasn’t discouraged. He just moved the date six months to 21 October.
When the world didn’t end on 21 October, he retired from evangelism and his Family Radio network.
Tellingly, he also suffered from a stroke in 2011…
