Earlier today SABMiller announced that its chairperson, Graham Mackay passed away. Mackay was diagnosed with a brain tumor on 22 April 2013. He was 64-years-old.
A statement released by SABMiller revealed that the respected businessman died peacefully surrounded by his family at their home in Hampshire.
Mackay was raised in Swaziland, South Africa and Zimbabwe. He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1972 with a BSc in engineering, and gained a BCom from the University of South Africa in 1977.
Mackay was with SABMiller for 35 years and under his leadership SABMiller Plc became the world’s second biggest beer making company. He is credited for making rapid inroads across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States. John Manser, who was appointed chairman of SABMiller on Wednesday, said in a statement:
Graham was one of the most inspirational and successful leaders in international business by any measure. Everyone in the SABMiller family has been blessed by his vision, his loyalty, and his friendship during his 35 years with the group. He will be deeply missed.
