A nine-metre tall statue of our storied former President was yesterday unveiled at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
The monumental unveiling comes just mere hours after Madiba was laid to rest in Qunu on Sunday.
Many political A-listers made an appearance, including President Thabo Mbeki and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe. A national salute was performed during the unveiling, while the national anthem played. A 21-gun salute ended proceedings.
Zuma ended things off with a speech about the significance of the statue:
The stretching up of his hands and the footwork denotes that South Africa is now a democratic country. He’s advancing to the nation to say ‘let us come together, let us unite’ with both hands embracing the entire nation.
