Judging the success of an individual startup company is complex.
Forbes has researched its way through swathes upon swathes of startup companies, in an attempt to quantify the most successful new businesses of 2013.
This is their list.
1. EyeEm
As Intagram becomes less about sharing cool photos, and more about ad placement, EyeEm has emerged as a potential replacement. Launched in Berlin in 2011, EyeEm had just 1 million users in January. Now, it has 10 million photographers on board.
The app lets users personally curate their photos with categories, making it possible to choose topics you’d like to see more of, such as “New York City,” “walking around,” or “cute pets”.
This system means that EyeEm is developing a searchable database of photos that will soon be made available for brands and entities who’d like to purchase or commission quality shots but aren’t willing to pay for Getty.
That means money for the amateur photographer.
2. Instabeat
It’s like a pedometer for swimmers. You simply attach this little guy to your goggles, swim around for a while, and generate some cool data. It measures everything – heart rate, calories burned and number of laps, and stores this data for in-depth analytics which can be accessed on a computer via USB post-workout.
3. Tambero
What? You thought that the next killer-app would be something for kids, teens or moms? Try farmers, bru.
This little app is used by 35,000 farms in 120 countries, and is available on pretty much any mobile platform. It helps farmers manage breeding cattle, as well as milk and seedling production.
Users can also project births, set monitors and alarms, all while building a database of their animals.
