Australia – where the English sent their convicts in the 18th century, and where the convicts hunted the aboriginals like animals to near-extinction. It’s a harsh land, full of mystery, pain and wonder. And incest, it seems.
About a dozen dirty, neglected children have been found in rural Australian settlement. Generation upon generation of incestuous breeding has left many of them suffering from severe deformities and disabilities.
Incapable of any recognisable speech, it was discovered that the children lived in a commune with 40 other adults and youngsters, all of whom were closely related to one another.
Brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, nephews and grandchildren all had sex with one another over four generations – and raised their young in the squalid conditions that prepared them for a life of incest themselves.
Genetic testing showed that 11 of the 12 children had parents that were related to each other, five of which were “closely related”. The kids suffered from a range of disabilities including deafness and blindness.
The group of closely-knit adults lived a truly tawdry existence, their total accommodation amounting to little more than two caravans, two sheds and two tents without running water or sewerage.
The Australian Court stated that:
Observations of the children were that they appeared to be dirty, wore dirty clothing and were shy and unable to make eye contact. Their speech was difficult to understand, and they appeared to have very poor dental health and hygiene. There were no toilets, showers or baths. The children had to go into the bush to go to the toilet. They hand washed in a tub of water.
Grossed out enough yet? You can take a little more.
When officials investigated the camp, they found a young kangaroo sleeping in one of the kid’s beds. Exposed electricity wires, chainsaws and huge rubbish bags littered the area.
A few of the young girls at the camp didn’t even know how to use a toilet. They didn’t know what toilet paper was.
They had also never seen a toothbrush before in their lives.
