In a massively unexpected move, Billy Joel attended a New York press conference,where he said he would assume residency at Madison Square Garden.

Joel promised to play at Madison Square Garden once a month, as long as there continues to be demand for his music.

Playing Madison Square Garden is an experience that never gets old. A show a month at the Garden for as long as there’s demand means more opportunities to connect with music fans and provides a unique and memorable show every time we play here.

His residency will start on the 27 January next year, and will continue with additional shows on 3 February , 21 March, 18 April and 9 May. It wasn’t made clear when additional shows will be announced, but there was no official end date announced. Officials at the press conference reiterated they would continue “as long as there is demand.”

It’s also not clear whether or not he will do shows outside of New York during the residency.

The question is, has Billy Joel ever heard of diminishing marginal utility? Probably not.
