YISLAAIK – this is one for the scrapbook. Last June, a Nigerian chef survived three days under the ocean, hiding in a pocket of air that was trapped beneath his sunken ship.
The video shows divers from the commercial diving vessel Lewek Toucan searching the Jascon 4 tugboat wreck for bodies. At around the 5:30 mark, the diver reaches out for what he thinks is a dead hand – only to find that it belongs to Harrison Okene, the sole survivor from the 12-man crew.
“What the fff…!” He shouts into his regulator, before realising what he’s just found.
Fearing decompression sickness, they took as long as possible to bring him to the surface.
After two days, he was released and returned to his wife and family. According to The Guardian, Okene is planning to write a book about his experience.
