It seems like those who have opposed the ‘selfie’ in all its forms will have to put their prejudices aside. It’s a thing now. A big thing.
‘Frontback’ is the new app that is encouraging people all over the world to ditch their misgivings – and dive head on into the world of the selfie. And you know what – it doesn’t look half bad.
Here’s the concept: every final picture that the app produces is a composition of two photos, one on the top and one on the bottom. The top photo captures whatever your front-facing camera sees (a view, a house, a cat), while the bottom photo captures whatever the inward-facing camera sees – which is most likely your face.
As Frontback founder and CEO Frederic della Faille puts it, “My face is the caption of the photo.”
The app launched in July, and has been downloaded 350,000 times, growing 15% this month alone. And still, the app is expanding, having recently raised R30 million in new funding and rejecting a buyout offer from Twitter. The 38 year-old Belgian CEO explains why Frontback will work:
It’s not Snapchat, where you look stupid because it’s super instant. First you take the first photo, and then you frame the second photo based on the first one. You stage the final version. The process of creation is much more interesting when you can stage both photos.
