The Telegraph Travel awards asked 75,000 people to vote for their favourite travel companies and destinations – so this is no phony, small-time award. In fact, the Telegraph’s survey is one of most comprehensive and wide-ranging travel surveys out there.
Held on Wednesday on the 32nd floor of the Shard building in in central London, the awards were presented in 15 different categories, from the world’s best tour operator to the world’s best hotel group.
Cape Town managed to take home the award for the world’s best city, and, surprisingly, the award for best country went to… New Zealand.
The mother city somehow managed to edge out some really world-class competition, beating off the likes of both Venice and Vancouver, who tied for second.
