The group of protesters that stormed through the Cape Town CBD last month have vowed to give it another go, despite being denied permission by the authorities.
The Cape Times reported on Tuesday that the Cape Town Informal Settlements Organisation has planned to march to the Western Cape provincial legislature on Friday, in order to deliver (yet another) memorandum to Helen Zille.
The City of Cape Town turned down the application for the march, citing “credible evidence that the march may result in disruptions to traffic, injuries and possible damage to property.”
As one might have expected, the organisers have vowed to march anyway.
A Cape Town Informal Settlements Organisation spokesperson claimed that 50,000 people would attend, but earlier reports estimated up to 200,000.
The spokesperson was very clear about their desires to have Helen Zille accept the memorandum herself. He also said that her refusal to accept it during the previous march fuelled the anger of the protesters.
