The English just love doing this sort of thing. Every year around Cristmas, they gather around and try to get a certain song up to number one in the charts just in time for Christmas. Why? Well, because they’re bored and lonely and live on a cold, rainy Island where it gets dark at 15h00.
This time though, they’re getting involved to do something that we generally approve of. Since 1973, AC/DC have never had a UK Top 10 single, and the British public are looking to fix that by rallying listeners together, and attempting to get ‘Highway To Hell’ to that number one spot.
AC/DC fans will be buoyed by the memory of how Rage Against The Machine got ‘Killing in the Name of’ to the top of the Christmas chart in 2009.
But they face tough opposition. Oh yes, it’s that most nefarious of musical duos, Susan Boyle and the ghost of Elvis Presley. No, really. Susan Boyle recorded a song with the voice of Elvis Presley.
Here’s to hoping that AC/DC have one last hurrah, and leave Susan in the dust.
