Here’s yet another reason not to become a politician. While some people use Bitcoins to buy things like socks and sushi online, Kawabatake Sanjuro invented a website called the Assissination Market, where you place a bid to have a government official killed in exchanged for Bitcoins.
The Assassination Market is a website that lets anyone anonymously contribute Bitcoins in exchange for the assassination of a government member. If someone on the hit list is killed, the person who proves he or she is responsible for the assassination gets the Bitcoins.
The site has been online for four months, and six targets have been submitted. No one has been killed. President Barack Obama is on the assassination list – his life trading for 40 Bitcoins. The largest bounty, 124 bitcoins, is for Ben Bernanke, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, who some consider a threat to Bitcoin’s decentralised digital currency. At current Bitcoin rates, that’s about R757 200.
Sanjuro, on the other hand, has been very vocal about his ambitions to destroy “all governments everywhere.”
I believe it will change the world for the better. Thanks to this system, a world without wars, dragnet panopticon-style surveillance, nuclear weapons, armies, repression, money manipulation, and limits to trade is firmly within our grasp for but a few Bitcoins per person.
Killing for peace? Sure.
