Our Cape Town readers will be aware of the massive thunderstorm last night that nailed us pretty hard. Here are a bunch of pics, showing just how radical the flash flood was. From Chapman’s Peak to dire scenes at Strand and Somerset Medi Clinic.
A lot of people are surprised that we have this rain in November, when in actual fact it is quite regular. Yes it is, my friends. Those of you who read my regular column, Game, Seth, Match, would have caught the photo of a 2001 Cape Times article, discussing this very thing – the fact that Capetonians choose to ignore the rain every year in November, treating it (and forgetting it) as a freak one-off. Click here to read that article.
Guns ‘n Roses even wrote a song about it. Probably not Cape Town, specifically – but it’s a nice way for us to remember it next time!
