Strap on your nappies because Stephen King has written a sequel to the greatest horror novel ever written in the history of the universe.
That book is, obviously, ‘The Shining’. Published in 1977, the story follows Jack Torrance who works at an out-of-season hotel and eventually goes mad. He then does deeply terrifying things to his wife and psychic son, Danny. The film of the same name starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Stanley Kubrick was released in 1980. This means you can still be excited about the sequel even if you only watched the movie.
The sequel, which is called ‘Doctor Sleep’ follows Danny, Jack’s son, who is now a middle-aged alcoholic. Haunted by what happened with his father many years ago, he uses his psychic powers to help people die. Great stuff.
King revealed that Danny never left his head, prompting him to write his first sequel. He also fears that it will be harder to scare fans now that his audience is older. This from a man who once said, “I have the heart of a small boy … and I keep it in a jar on my desk.” We’re not worried.
