Instagram just isn’t the fun, family-friendly service that it used to be. The Facebook-owned platform had some problems a few weeks ago when it was found that users were selling guns via the photo-sharing app. Now though, if you wanted to buy a little bit of drugs to go with your guns, you need not even leave the Instagram app – it’s all there.
It’s really just a matter of searching the right hashtags. If you use the right ones, your feed should explode with a buffet of online drugs. And though Instagram has very specific rules about what is allowed on their site – they have found it difficult to track down and stop illicit online sales. One advert, with a picture of bags of marijuana reads:
“Just getting a few packs ready for tomorrow morning … Place your order today, it gets shipped out at 8am tomorrow.”
Another photo showed an array of pills with the caption: “$2 a pop for xans, $10 a pop for roxys ” – which is referring to Xanax, a psychoactive anxiety treatment, and Roxicodone, an opiate used to treat pain. Usually, after the customer had made initial contact via Instagram, the deals would be concluded via Whatsapp, thereby keeping the whole thing private.
Talk about being addicted to social media.
