After what was a tightly contested 2-2 draw that saw Chelsea claim a point after a controversial last-minute penalty, Jose Mourinho stirred some violence after the match when he called West Brom defender Jonas Olsson a “mickey-mouse player”.
Olsson had apparently told Mourinho to “Shut up and fuck off”, which prompted the pair to square up outside the dressing rooms, before being pulled apart by team-mates and match officials. Olsson insulted Mourinho after the Chelsea manager pointed out that Stéphane Sessègnon’s second goal for West Brom was pot-luck.
Liam Ridgewell and Albion assistant manager Kevin Keen also got involved with stewards as the anger threatened to boil over following the dodgy penalty given in the 95th minute.
Mourinho stepped out of the dressing room after hearing the row, and then made the “Mickey Mouse” insult to Olsson, which turned what was already a very angry scene into a furious ruckus. What followed was a 20-man confrontation, where fists would have been thrown had it not been for team staff stepping in.
After everything had calmed down and handshakes had been exchanged, Mourinho couldn’t resist have one last go at West Brom:
“They are a team to finish mid-table, every point for them is a great point.”
