Local film maker, Ben Jay Crossman got in touch with us recently to share his video series, titled ‘The Streets Of Fietas’. The series is a stark insight into the lives of the residents of one of Johannesburg’s poorest suburbs, as they battle drug addiction. This is part three of three.
The description for the third episode in the series reads as follows:
shaun went to jail. two months after i shot him in the back of a police car i bumped into him at the local liquor store where i was shooting an interview. he was sadly high and asked for money. The screwdriver kid from part 1 got a job working with his dad as a mechanic and occasionally goes back to fietas to visit old friends or at least that’s what people told me. martin has two children now and holds down a job even though he continues to battle with his addiction. the drug problem in fietas is out of control and even thou i have made a lot of friends there, i have lost even more to drugs, jail and the STREETS OF FIETAS.
