What do you do if you want a live feed on your smartphone that displays all of your body’s biometric data? You shove a massive computer chip under your skin, of course. Tim Cannon, a biohacker, recently became the first person to have one of these implanted – and it looks pretty painful.
Because no doctor would play along, Cannon relied on one of his biohacking mates to help out. So he cut him open, inserted the “chip” (more like a motherboard), and sealed him up. Easy! The chip, called the Circadia 1.0, comes in a box with a battery that can be wirelessly charged, while recording data from Cannon’s body and transferring it to any Android-powered device.
Unlike wearable computers and biometric-recording devices, the subcutaneous device is open-source, and allows the user full control over how data is collected and used.
It is also the choice of the user to simply not go on with the procedure, and do something less painful instead. Like be normal.
