It’s every gamer’s conundrum – the Playstation or the Xbox? Of course, those loyal to desktop PC’s will dismiss both options, but those gamers who need more than a keyboard and mouse will be looking to invest in one of these new devices – but which one?
Reasons to buy the Xbox One:
1) Cloud Stuff
The upside of the Xbox, is that it has a really rich dad. With Microsoft, you have the resources of one of the largest tech companies in the world backing your console. Take for instance “Project Mountain”, a $700 million data center built for Xbox One and Office 365. This just basically means that, for the moment, online playing is going to be far superior on the Xbox.
2) The New Kinect Camera
The old was a little… kak. But, again, with the power of Microsoft, the Xbox kinect is now a fully-featured depth sensing camera that seems to be a huge improvement over the previous generation. It also picks up voice now, so you can shout to do things in-game.
3) The Nifty Controller
The dualshock was such a staple for such a long time, but the design of the Xbox controller (with it’s asymmetric button placement) was an instant hit. They haven’t tried to re-invent the wheel with this one, but have added to the already existing design with some new features, like rumbling triggers.
4) Exclusive Stuff
Xbox is really pushing for more customers, so they’re gonna make more stuff exlcusive. For example, Titanfall, the next-gen game that has generated more buzz than any other, is not coming to PS4.
5) It’s a TV too
Microsoft has put a lot of emphasis on the entertainment element of the new console, which some gamers may be miffed about. While Microsoft’s partnerships with the likes of Time Warner, Verizon Fios, Comcast Xfinity and the NFL make this a very attractive option to American gamers with cable, this doesn’t really affect us much.
Reasons to buy the PS4:
1) Powerrrrr:
The jury’s out with this one, the PS4 just is more powerful than the Xbox. Call Of Duty: Ghost runs at 1080p native on the PS4, and 720 on the Xbox One. Simple as that.
2) More Exclusive Stuff
It’s true, some of the best game developers in the world make games exclusively for PS4 – there will be a lot more PS4-exclusive games than Xbox-exclusive games.
3) The Very New Controller
The change in controller design from the PS3 to the PS4 is the most dramatic redesign in Playstation history. The triggers are easier to use and rest your fingers on, there’s a share button for easy access to ‘social features’, and there’s a clickable touch screen in the middle.
4) Indie Developers
Simply put, it’s easier to develop games for the PS4. The PS4 was built for easy development and publishing from the ground up, meaning that we should be getting a lot of weird, wonderful, and beautiful games from small indie teams.
5) The Pricetag
The PS4 is R1000 less. Boom.
