Day three of the Continental Run2Stop challenge dawned bright and clear in Rustenburg. The runners had set out at 6am to complete a gruelling 45km course, followed shortly thereafter by the cyclists, who cranked out another 120km+ ride in intense heat. Our amateur (but kickass) cyclist Greg Black was joined by Wicus, who replaced our pro cyclist Yolandi, who pulled out with an injury.
Wicus, killing it.
Back at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Team Edge and Team Force came head to head to pack 18,000 meals for needy children on behalf of Stop Hunger Now.
42 boxes later, Team Force’s superior divisions of labour clinched us a victory of Team Edge, who were apparently under the misapprehension that the goal was to get as much rice on the floor as possible.
Ben Karpinski of The Bounce (the rival blogger from Team Edge) was doing his best impression of a Centurion mom with these synthetic half-calve capri pants and trainers.
Gorgeous.
Shortly thereafter we made our way to a creche in Phokeng, where we were tasked with constructing cupoboards for the kids, and cutting mattresses. Efficiency, concentration and pride in our work nabbed Team Force victory once more. That makes four from four challenges for Pierre, Jimmy and me.
Here we have one Jimmy Tau slicing up mattreses for small children at the creche in Mpho Khonou informal settlement, outside Rustenburg. Fun fact: the informal settlement happens to have the same name as the Executive Mayor of Rustenburg.
“Sleep tight with Jimmy Tau.” Because, you know, that’s not creepy.
Although Force picked up two points in the challenges, our diehard athletes were once again pipped by ridiculously narrow margins, making it two points all for the teams on day three, and bringing the contest to 6-4 in favour of Team Edge.
Day 4 is dawning, and the scrap for first place is about to begin in earnest.
All pics by Tyson Jopson, except for the last two. (Those were by me.)
