Meet Loyiso Nkohla. Loyiso is the ANC councillor for Ward 98 in Khayelitsha, and a member of the Cape Town provincial Health Portfolio Committee. Loyiso is the man who may be responsible for the riots in Cape Town’s CBD today.

This last weekend, Nkohla addressed a gathering of residents in Nyanga’s KTC Hall. The meeting was intended to ratify a memorandum of demands made on behalf of township residents, which was to be delivered to the Western Cape Provincial Legislature in Wale Street during today’s march.

Among other things, Nkohla allegedly said at the meeting, “You will not have to go hungry because there are so many places that you can loot in the CBD. The police can’t arrest us all because there will be too many of us.”

Nkohla allegedly delivered the same line at public addresses to residents in Phillipi, Samora Michel, and and Khayelitsha.

The Daily Sun reported that Nkohlsa said to them: “Squatters will go to Cape Town and loot if Zille does not receive the memorandum. People who feel they don’t want to be a part of this should stay at home. We are not scared.”
