It’s been a year since one of Apple’s chief techies – Scott Forstall – left Apple, and was replaced by Jony Ive and Craig Federighi, who were supposed to manage both iOS and OS X. This was meant to give Apple a chance to create a single, unified design across all operating systems. Apple followers will have expected OS X Mavericks to be quite similar to the new iOS – for the software to merge seamlessly between mobile and desktop device.
Their prayers, sadly, have not been answered.
It seems that this, version 10.9 of the legendary OS X, is yet another case of evolution and not revolution. Sure, it comes with a whole list of new features, plenty of under-the-hood changes – but it still looks and feels pretty similar to the old one. But after a totally new look was brought to the iOS, and after Microsoft went for a totally new approach -it’s strange that the guys at Apple have decided to keep changes to OS X minimal.
What is nifty, though, is that where the previous update cost about $25, OS X Mavericks is totally free. So you might as well do it, right? It’s not everyday someone sends you new software in the mail. It’s a gift. Open it.
The system update is about 5 GB in size, and your Mac should take about half an hour to install the upgrade once it’s been downloaded.
