There are two ways this story could’ve panned out. Either the clowns noticed some drug dealings going on and, being good Samaritans, immediately shot down the head honcho – OR – gunmen who always had the intention of killing the head honcho dressed themselves up as clowns, invaded the party, and shot the guy from close range. Done guessing?
On that fateful day, Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix, a 63-year-old drug lord, was having a lovely little shindig with his family in Cabo San Lucas, at a resort in the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. Later, a few clowns emerged – seamlessly blending into the surroundings with their rainbow-wigs and big red noses.
The clowns casually approached Felix, pulled guns out from under their polka-dot onesies, and shot him twice from point-blank range – once in the chest, and once in the head.
Francisco was one of seven Felix brothers who dominated the drug trafficking between Mexico and California and formed part of the infamous Tijuana Cartel, who were famed for having constructed a drug-trafficking tunnel between Tijuana and California.
Francisco has been in prison no less than four times, with two of his brothers having already been shot dead. Three others are in prison for trafficking offences, with one other serving a 15 year sentence.
Their mum must be so proud.
