I’d say it’s been a good week. I’ve been enjoying my new driver, who carts me around town from one important meeting to the next – usually with people of distinction. You know, “stakeholders” and “opinion leaders.” Such is the hand I’ve been dealt.
I would like to begin with a disclaimer. The idea behind Game, Seth, Match is to give you some of the old school Seth that you (and my wife and my mother and Goldfish and John Smit) have been whinging about missing. That said, while you will be exposed to almost zero commercial activity here, I won’t restrict myself from showing off any new and radical things that I really dig and that I think might appeal to you. Like your mother – I really dig her.
Back to my recent week. I’m sure I’ll get back into daytime driving again (especially when the star of the Johannesburg Motor Show MINI stand arrives at my door), but I certainly am having a lot of fun with these inexpensive app-driven chauffeurs. Granted, we are doing business with Uber, but only because they have changed my life. You’ll never order a normal taxi service again. Click here to never deal with the hopeless local taxi services ever again. No more phone calls to the company, either.
So I’ve started a new thing called ‘Lab Diaries,’ as I find myself wading through the currently-exploding pet industry. I hope you don’t mind, but I bought a chocolate labrador. Bitch. Name’s Lacoste. She’s not named after the clothing brand, but rather the neighbouring town of where the family bastide is, in Provence. The name Menerbes (pronounced mer’ nab) just didn’t seem right for a dog. Lacoste is the name of the next town and it suits the hound. The only fashion connection there is the fact that Pierre Cardin happens to own half the village.
So anyway, the Muse is away and I’m just hanging out with Lacoste at home, enjoying some tea and cheese. I thought I would review a toy I bought recently for her.
I am disappointed that the toys and treats don’t come with a sticker of a clock, showing how much time a particular toy buys you. Don’t you think that’s a good idea? The odd break from a mental 3.5 month labrador is a valuable thing – and I’ll pay good money for it – just tell me how long it buys me. What is the Rand to minute ratio? I mentioned this idea to the chick in the pet store and she gave a reason as to why it’s not a good idea.
I cover that and so much more in this quick video that you might enjoy.
So there you have it.
Who knows what we’ll be talking about next week.
Summer?
I don’t know, gang.. you know November rains are quite normal down here? It’s true. Here’s a clipping from 2001, still pinned to the pin board at Leith Roofing, Claremont. The company’s emperor, Steve Leith wrote the scribbles at the top.
Interesting, hey?
Here’s Guns N’ Roses – ‘November Rain.’
Whoah. I just watched that the whole way through. It’s been a while and I think we’re all due a session.
And as for Slash!
Jesus.
I’ll be honest I had a little drizz back there. Don’t be scared if you too are overcome by emotion. It’s a special song. It’s a big song. And the video is a journey of epic proportions. You should have a little cry.
I never knew the exact words they sing over and over at the very end. So I got the lyrics. Thought you might appreciate.
When I look into your eyes I can see a love restrained
But darlin’ when I hold you, don’t you know I feel the same? yeah
Nothin’ lasts forever and we both know hearts can change
And it’s hard to hold a candle in the cold November rain
We’ve been through this such a long long time
Just tryin’ to kill the pain, ooh yeah
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An’ no one’s really sure who’s lettin’ go today, walking away
And if we take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head just knowin’ that you were mine, all mine
So if you want to love me then darlin’ don’t refrain
Or I’ll just end up walkin’ in the cold November rain
Do you need some time on your own?
Do you need some time all alone?
Everybody needs some time on their own
Don’t you know you need some time all alone?
I know it’s hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal the broken heart
Wouldn’t time be out to charm you?
Sometimes I need some time on my own
Sometimes I need some time all alone
Everybody needs some time on their own
Don’t you know you need some time all alone
And when your fears subside and shadows still remain, oh yeah
I know that you can love me when there’s no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness we still can find a way
Nothin’ lasts forever even cold November rain
Don’t you think that you need somebody?
Don’t you think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You’re not the only one, you’re not the only one
Don’t you think that you need somebody?
Don’t you think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You’re not the only one, you’re not the only one
Don’t ya think that you need somebody?
Don’t ya think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You’re not the only one, you’re not the only one
Don’t ya think that you need somebody?
Don’t ya think that you need someone?
Everybody needs somebody
You’ll be ok.
