Remember Harry Wilson? We posted a story about him yesterday, revealing just how badly the English Football Association wanted to nab the young star from the Welsh. The deal was that if he didn’t play for the Welsh first team, he could still have possibly played for England. But on Tuesday, young Harry Wilson defied the odds, as he became the youngest ever player to play for Wales, at age of 16 years and 203 days.
Wilson went on to defy the odds once more, as his unprecedented debut earned his granddad just over a million Rand.
How? You ask?
Well his granddad was either a soothsayer, a genius, or a lucky old fool – having placed a £50 on Harry to play for the Welsh football team, when Harry was only 18 months old. Harry’s debut just nabbed his Granddad £125,000 (R1,970,000).
The electrical contractor from Corwen, Wales, who left his job as soon as the winnings came in – can now look forward to a lot more time spent at home with the missus.
She is over the moon. I retired immediately. I told my manager yesterday that if Harry plays I wouldn’t be coming back
I’ve retired one year early. I have come home now and will not be going back. Not bad for a daft bet!
