We not here for a haircut. This weekend we going big. 500 – 1 big!
The weekend’s sports multiple includes Currie Cup semi-finals and English Premier League matches:
Province vs Lions
Sharks vs Cheetahs
Newcastle vs Liverpool
Manchester United vs Southampton
Aston Villa vs Spurs.
As always there are a range of multiples available ranging from 5 -1 to 500 – 1 but we have chosen to highlight the big one. The “upsets.”
We having fun here and at 500 – 1 if it does come off we are ALL laughing.
So, here it is.
In the Currie Cup matches we are going with a win for both the away sides. Meaning The Lions win against Province and The Cheetahs get one over The Sharks in Durban. Both possibilities are not as far fetched as you may think. The least likely being The Lions to beat Province at Newlands but Province supporters are well aware that their team has let them down before, many a time, in a similar position. The Sharks vs Cheetahs match is going to be less predictable. To start, it is number 2 plays number 3 and a closer contest to begin with. If there is one side that knows how to win at Kings Park it is The Cheetahs. They have done it many times before and have been labelled as bogey side for The Sharks. Cheetahs vs Lions in the final, in Bloem. Can you imagine that tussle?
In the Premier League games this weekend we are going with 3 wins. Always a tough call with footy as you need to factor in possible draws but we like to odds we can get with 3 wins. On that note we are picking:
Newcastle to beat Liverpool at St James’ Park
Southampton to beat United at Old Trafford
Villa to beat Spurs at Villa Park
We backing 2 of the 3 home sides to get a win here, not an entirely crazy call. However, given the current performance of Liverpool it would, without doubt be seen as an upset if Newcastle were to come away with a win here. Newcastle are middle (ish) on the log and have not been that bad this season. Toon for the win!
After betting against Southampton a few weeks ago we have learnt our lesson. The Saints have had an amazing start to the season and are sitting 4th in the log and have come along way. Exactly 4 years ago today they managed a 3-1 win over Oldham Athletic to move off the bottom of the League 1 log for the first time that season. Vastly different position they find themselves in at the moment. United on the other hand have been less than convincing this season and we can’t help but feel have started the dreaded “rebuilding” phase, a phase that may just last longer than most United fans would like. We think Terry Paine is great and so we are backing The Saints here.
Villa and Spurs is the closest of the EPL matches with only 3 points separating them on the log. There really is not much to choose between them and we are going with the home team here. Villa drew last weekend to Hull whilst Spurs suffered a 3 – 0 defeat at the hands of West Ham. Not ideal. We don’t like Andre Villas-Boas either.
There you have it friends. These teams win and we are in the pound seats. We are putting R50 down on it, what is R50? Seriously.
