What the hell is an Oarfish? While the term may escape laymen, the Oarfish has been well documented by marine biologists for years. It’s not anything too strange, it’s just strange-lookin’. Although, due to their mysterious beachings after storms, and thier tendency to linger on the surface of the sea when they are dying – they are a common source of sea-serpent tales. And boy, do we have a sea-serpent tale today.
So, this marine biologist was having a casual snorkel off the Southern California coast – when he spotted something that was both massive, long and silver. It’s pretty damn serendipitous that a marine biologist spotted it, and was able to identify the beast immediately. The serpent-like creature was bobbing just off the shore, which meant the biologist had to drag the damn thing 22 metres to get to the beach.
Once there, the local Californians were able to help out. They took a bit of a measurement and, well, this thing measured as long as your tallest mate – times two-and-a-half. In other words, it was mahusive.
Because Oarfish usually dive down to about 900 metres, there is very little known about the creature, which is probably why the local-yokels were so taken aback by the discovery.
And hey, one dude got to pose with his dog. That’s probably the weirdest appearance that both a fish and a dog have made in one photo. Naas.
