Will Ferrell has done it again in his new mini-series, “Spoils of Babylon”. Produced by Ferrell’s own Funny or Die label, it is a truly weird adaptation of a non-existent novel by Eric Jonrosh. Ferrell does play a major part in the series, but only as the voice of Jonrosh. He appears later, however, as the Shah of Iran. Quality.
Take note, this isn’t the usual Will Ferrell brand of comedy. Rather, he’s taken a route down the ‘Dark Comedy’ path, and tells the tale of a dysfunctional family of tycoons.
The deal is that if the children of the family (played by Kirsten Wiig and Tobey Maguire), can stop making out and forget their forbidden love for each other, they will then be in line to inherit their father’s (Tim Robbins) fortune.
The trailer makes the series feel like an extended Saturday Night Live skit, but with an added seriousness that you simply can’t take seriously.
OH – and Jessica Alba is also in it.
