Being South Africans, we’ve become quite accustomed to those coffee table books with pictures of the big five sprawled on the cover. Heck, most of us have seen at least some of the big five in person – no biggie. But never have we got a glimpse into the nocturnal lives of these magnificent animals.
Hannes Lochner, an ace wildlife photographer, spent a whole TWO YEARS in the Kalahari following the life of Luna the leopard as she prowled the night-time plains. Along his way he also snapped any other animal he thought might look cool at night. In his time he managed to see Luna give birth to three litters of cubs – which is an impressive turnover rate for any mammal.
But seriously, these photos are awesome. Have a squizz.
