Thousands of iOS7 users have noted a troubling development on the iMessage front – a lot of messages aren’t getting sent. Usually, you can tell whether your iMessage is stuck in limbo by the persisting presence of the “Sending…” tab at the top of the message thread. Conversely, you can tell for certain if a message has been delivered by noting the “delivered” text below said message. Occasionally, however, iOS7 does something infuriating by not telling you for certain whether or not the message has been sent. This is what you do in those instances.
Some messages will have a time and date stamp above them, but you can’t always tell whether this applies to a string of messages or just the one directly beneath it. If you see a blue iMessage with no “Delivered” label, you may want to play it safe and assume that the message wasn’t sent.
Press and hold any suspect blue message, and an option for “Send as Text Message” will appear. That button will force the message to be delivered outside iMessage, and sent through your mobile phone network instead. The message will turn green to indicate it was sent via text instead of iMessage, and you’ll see a notification below it saying “Sent as Text Message.”
You can also use that functionality to delete any unsent messages that have since become redundant.
And if you’d like to play it safe until such time as Apple fixes the glitch, hit settings, general, messages, and turn off iMessage.
