South Africa’s walking medical miracle, Schabir Shaik is accused of beating a caddie at a Durban golf club with a wedge, which is favoured over the traditional 3-wood in a brawl for the weight of the head and sharpness of the edge.

These are the allegations:

– Shaik hit a caddie with a wedge club, before trampling him with his spiked golf shoes, and hurling racist slurs at him

– The caddie was taken to Sydenham police station to lay a charge against Shaik.

– At the station, the caddie was offered R500 by Shaik’s driver to make the situation “go away”.

The caddie took the cash and left.

Shaik’s personal physician Salim Gaffoor witnessed the incident, and described the caddie as “rude and arrogant”.

While Gaffoor and Shaik dismiss the incident as a minor spat, there was enough of a brouhaha for a golfing witness to call the police to the scene.
