The Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe once raised hopes that President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF could be defeated at the polls. But, after losing three elections in a row, the party is at war with itself and looks set for a slow death. Calls for MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai to hand over power to a new leader are increasing and it appears western donors have lost confidence in the former trade unionist. The MDC is retrenching a third of its staff because of dry coffers. Listen to editor of the Mail & Guardian’s Zimbabwe edition Teldah Mawarire who says indeed we should be worried about the MDC’s future.
