I’m sad I missed the Mayweather fight on Sunday. In fact I did very badly this weekend and missed the rugby, too. Thought it was at 5pm – turns out it was in the morning. Blind.
One thing I am terribly excited about and something I won’t be able to miss as it’s not live, is this new F1 movie – RUSH – coming out about the days of James Hunt. I checked this page in the latest Vanity Fair.
James Hunt will be played by Chris Hemsworth
Now THAT was a beautiful time in the world of Formula 1. I even mentioned James Hunt by name when referring to the old school days of Formula 1, during my recorded phone conversation with Mika Hakkinen I had the other day (we chat from time to time – he’s a massive 2oceansviber). They really were the glory days of Formula 1. The cars were advanced enough to look sexy, but dangerous enough for people to die. No-one WANTS anyone to die, but the RISK of someone dying definitely made the sport more thrilling. Nowadays they’re just too safe – which is an oxymoron in itself – but true nonetheless.
The drivers are too safe, too. In the days of James Hunt, it would be perfectly normal for the long-haired stud to put out a cigarette before climbing into the car. Then he’d win the race, get out, nail a cigarette and a beer and punish a pit girl in the porti-loo.
The real James Hunt..
Then came Michael Schumacher a few decades later – taking the fitness side of things to the next level. Great to watch the driving skill – but sad to lose that spunk. Here’s a pic of me and Michael Schumacher. #normal
Another big 2ov fan.
Speaking of cigarettes, I’m watching this whole e-cigarette vibe with a keen eye, and this is my take on it..
Do you know what the problem is with e-cigarettes? They’re a goddamn MISSION. You have to remember to charge them, refill them and you’re petrified of losing them, given their crazy high price (often around the grand mark).
But you know what the biggest joke of it all is? Even the ones that are made to look like a cigarette are too heavy and too long. That means you will never fully replicate the reason ANYONE (and I truly believe this) had their first cigarette in the first place – and that was to look cool. No-one started smoking because it tasted nice. No – they wanted to look like James Hunt or Kate Moss. Fact. So while e-cigarettes might be catering for the existing smokers out there – either helping them pretend to quit, or placating their craving in public places; they’re missing a trick getting NEW non-smokers hooked. Because it doesn’t look cool and it’s physically too heavy and it’s a luss to maintain.
And that’s all I have to say about that. Catch you guys next time.
Check out the trailer to that movie, below. It’s directed by Ron Howard and details the rivalry between Hunt and Niki Lauda.
