Google Street View has captured some weird and wonderful moments around the world. Its taken us to the Galapagos Islands, under the sea and along the Tour de France. Now, Google Street View has helped save a stray dog.
Patrick Pittenger noticed the pup hanging around his work in Long Beach, California, and occasionally gave it some food and water. One day, while exploring the area online, he and his girlfriend Jennifer Velasquez noticed the dog, in its usual spot, on Google Street View and decided to call the call animal rescue group Hope For Paws for help.
Sure enough, Hope For Paws found the dog in the same exact location as it was seen online. The dog, named Sonya, had apparently been stranded in the area for 10 years and was found crouching under an old truck to escape the heat. After luring it out of its hiding spot with bits of cheeseburger, they were able to get it on a leash and give it a good clean. Poor Sonya was covered in tumours and had arthritis, ingrown claws, broken teeth, mange and a limp. She’s all good now though.
Peter Pittenger’s mother adopted the doggie and couldn’t be happier.
It was amazing to see her that day. She looked so different without all the hair. I think we all got choked up and were so happy for her and us.
Check out the video of the entire, heart-melting rescue above. Then go hug your dog.
