A 20-year-old man has been discovered living alone in a mud hut in the wilderness of Siberia, three kilometres from the nearest settlement. The man states that until the date of his discovery, he had never known any humans apart from his parents, who are alleged to have brought him to the forest when he was four years old. The man, who has been dubbed ‘Altay Mowgli’ has been living alone since May, when his parents abandoned him.

He was recently discovered by a resident in a nearby settlement, and escorted to the police station.

His parents told him that he was born in 1993, although he looks no older than 15-years-old. He is capable of delayed but clear speech, but has no education, and no knowledge of the world outside of the forest.

Tragically, he doesn’t qualify for social or medical aid because legally speaking, he doesn’t exist.

If he attempts to reintegrate into normal society, he faces a real danger of dying from common human diseases, which he won’t have been exposed to for his whole life.

For the time being, he continues to live in the woods alone.
