Carina Papenfus’ name came up in our previous article about the owner of Rietvallei wines, Johnny Burger, killing himself. And now she is back, with this letter she allegedly wrote to Joost van der Westhuizen.
To bring you up to speed, Carina Papenfus represents Flippie Engelbrecht, who she claims was beaten by Rietvallei wine owner, Johnny Burger. It is alleged that this beating led to epilepsy, which caused Flippie to fall into a fire and ultimately lose his hands and sight. Johnny Burger shot and killed himself this week
A quick browse through the comments under that original story, makes it quite clear that there is more than one side to this story – with some of the comments even claiming that Carina Papenfus is a murderer. This is with reference to her allegedly driving Johnny Burger to kill himself – apparently as a result of her incessant social media crusade against him. You can read those comments and her twitter taunts here.
Today we have received a copy of a letter that Papenfus sent to ex-Springbok rugby player, Joost van der Westhuizen, telling him of Flippie’s plight. Our source – a prominent farmer in the Robertson region – claims that she did this to create publicity, “using a very sick famous ex-rugby player to raise the profile of the case, probably aiming to boost Flippie’s perceived earning capacity – to bolster loss of income claims against Rietvallei wine estate.”
She phoned Rietvallei twice on the day of Johnny Burger’s death, to find out who his civil claim lawyers are.
In the letter (below), Papenfus claims that Flippie had dreams of being a Springbok. This was further emphasised in yesterday’s Beeld story, where she said he could have been the next Breyton Paulse.
She claims in the letter that Flippie played full-back for the de Hoop Rangers when he was 15. Our source has confirmed that “players from de Hoop rangers say Flippie never played for them and was always merely a spectator.”
Furthermore, Flippie was allegedly assaulted on the 25th of January 2008, which makes him 13 at the time of the attack (his birth date is 28 December, 1994). The question raised is, “how is it possible that he was playing rugby at the age of 15, if he was blind from the attack? As claimed in the letter to Joost van der Westhuizen.
This will be a very interesting, albeit sad, story to watch. We will bring you all the latest developments, as we get them.
