The new film about Princess Diana is set to premier in London tonight, and producers are expecting a major backlash. The film, more than anything, is said to be mainly focused around her two year romance with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan.
In an interview with a newspaper, Hasnat Khan said he disapproves of the movie, adding that it is mainly based on gossip. He said:
This includes some of my relatives who didn’t know much about it either. It is all based on hypotheses and gossip.
Director Oliver Hirschbiegel told Sky News:
The film is actually based on the accounts of several people, and the inquest in which there were hundreds of pages discussing their relationship
Adding that it is not a documentary, but a dramatic re-telling of the love story between the two.
Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty Magazine, already has some criticisms about the upcoming film, saying:
[…]I feel that once again their (Prince Harry and Prince William) mother’s memory has been hijacked.
Naomi Watts plays the role of Diana, and said she spent a lot of time and energy perfecting the roll. Seward says that she doesn’t see Diana when watching Watts’ interpretation on film, she says that Watts looks much older than Diana did, and that she doesn’t have the same athletic build Diana did.
The first thing I said when I saw the trailer was ‘it’s just so not Diana’.
The film is based on the 2001 book by Kate Snell called, Diana: Her Last Love.
