Another skyscraper is being added to the London skyline and usually, when this happens, complaints roll in about the view being spoiled, but that’s not entirely the case for the latest addition, dubbed, the ‘Walkie Talkie’. Complaints about this one have to do with melting expensive cars.
Martin Lindsay, Jaguar owner, parked his precious car across the road from the yet to be finished 37-story building, only to return two hours later to find parts of his car melted. Naturally, he blamed the building, saying that due to its curved shape, it reflected the sun’s rays at such an angle to focus it, like a magnifying glass does to ants, on three parking bays across the road. Because of this, his car’s wing-mirror and badge melted. He was quoted as saying,
Crikey, that’s awful. Imagine if the sun reflected on the wrong part of the body
The construction company left a note on his windscreen asking him to give them a call and have agreed to pay the R15,000 repair costs. The City of London has suspended the three affected parking bays until the matter can be investigated further.
Shame. You wouldn’t need to park a Vespa inside a dangerous building like that.
