DA MP David Maynier summed the situation up rather nicely when he said, “We welcome the fact that the public protector will effectively be investigating the investigation into Guptagate.” And if that isn’t solid gold, then we don’t know what is.
Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela has decided to probe a complaint against the government task team responsible for investigating the irregular landing of a private jet at Waterkloof Air Force Base carrying hundreds of wedding guests for a Gupta family wedding earlier this year.
Much to chagrin of the DA, Madonsela won’t be investigating the role of Jacob Zuma in the scandal, owing to a lack of implicating evidence.
Madonsela’s investigation was sparked by a complaint lodged by Waterkloof Air Force Base official Lieutenant Colonel Christine Anderson, who was accused of giving the go-ahead for the landing without following proper protocols, and of dereliction of duty.
