Advertising is everywhere these days. You don’t even realise how many ads you see in a day, but it can be around 4,000 if you get out enough, or spend enough time on the web. Some companies, however, have built such a name for themselves and developed such a following that they don’t need to advertise.
Here’s five of them:
Huy Fong Foods, the makers of Sriracha
If you like hot-sauce, you’ve probably heard of Sriracha – but not on TV. These guys don’t even have a Facebook page, or a Twitter account, and their website hasn’t been updated since 2004. This hasn’t stopped them from moving 20 million bottles of hot sauce last year though.
Costco
The American mega-store only advertises through social media and emails, which costs them next to nothing – and profits are still soaring!
Krispy Kreme
If you’ve been to England, you’ve probably had a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Their deliciousness allows them to forego advertising. They get the word out there via social media, and the smell of their freshly made doughnuts.
Zara
Zara, or “Thara” as we like to say, is one of the world’s largest retailers. And they don’t have an advertising budget. Instead, they take that cash, and purchase store frontage next to luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and so on. By physically putting themselves next to elite brands, they do the same thing in your brain. Genius.
Roll’s Royce
The power of Big Daddy Royce is so pervasive that the company managed to spend exactly $0 on advertising last year, and yet somehow managed to shatter their own 107 year-old sales record. Put that in your cheap pearlescent pipe and smoke it, Bentley.
