Conor Mccreedy is a South African artist based in New York city. Having garnered critical acclaim for his striking artworks painted in varying shades of blue, Mccreedy is turning his attention to philanthropy.
Mccreedy has set up a foundation to Protect the African lion, and has some of the largest names in the world behind him.
Mccreedy will be in NYC on 27 September for the night of his global launch for his PAL Foundation. The Launch will be hosted by the third largest online luxury magazine, as well as Colin Cowie Enterprises. Colin Cowie and Live Out Loud CEO Mike Eilertsen are both ambassadors to the PAL Foundation.
The same night as the PAL launch, Mccreedy’s artwork will be on display in Sydney for the acclaimed Sydney Art fair. Mccreedy will have his Southern Hemisphere Art dealer present at this art fair, Nick Dreyer from Everard Read, South Africa’s most established gallery.
One of Mccreedy’s pieces on display is set to fetch over R300,000 at the Sydney Art Fair these coming months.
“Five Female Nudes” – Pigments, oil and enamel on triple primed Canvas 2007
In the earlier years before Mccreedy had developed his MccreedyBlue creations, he would paint fine, real life portraits and figures. This particular piece is over six years old. The painitng started as a perfect Charcoal drawing of the famous five supermodels which were originally photographed by the late, iconic fashion photographer, Herb Ritts.
This is where the inspiration originally came from – the first ever real supermodels; Christy Turligton, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell and Stephanie Seymour all intertwined naked between each other.
Later on in Mccreedy’s development with his signature style he completely “Mccreedyfied” his perfectly drawn charcoal on canvas into a haunting-yet magnificent, bursting power of rich blue hues. If turned upside down, the painting also resembles a frighteningly accurate, anatomic study of the human heart, literally seen constantly pulsating with the larger arteries, gushing with shades of blue blood.
The auction of his artwork is proving to be an extremely effective method for Mccreedy to raise funds for philanthropic projects.
Mccreedy reached the highest bid at the art auction for Francious Pienaar’s MAD foundation in NYC recently. At R290,000, the Mccreedy painting sold for a higher price than the William Kentridge piece by more that R60,000.
The proceeeds generated from that sale will help put at least three underprivileged children through school via the MAD Foundation.
Earlier on in the year Mccreedy gave more than R250,000 to foundations, including the Air France affiliated foundation and the KLM Affiliated foundation through two painting sales.
In addition to artwork for auction, Mccreedy contributes financially to the largest educational fund on earth- UBUNTU.
Mccreedy will be supplying one of his unique ‘Angel paintings’ to the Art Angels foundation for the second time this year. Earlier in the year, Mccreedy donated R60,000 to that foundation.
Mccreedy had given another painting to the Sensi6 and raised funds for Leket Israel three years ago which was sold on Wall Street at the event for an undisclosed amount.
