24-year-old Gareth Bale will soon be playing for Real Madrid. The world record breaking, €100 million (R1,366,590,600) transfer from the Tottenham Hotspur has been finalized, and an official announcement could be made tomorrow.
The agreement is straight cash, and no players will be coming from Real Madrid to the Tottenham Spurs.
Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez acknowledged that the price tag attached to acquiring Gareth was “a lot,” but they were desperate to sign the star player, and it falls short of the €120 million (R1,639,908,720) that Spurs were at one time quoting to give Bale up.
The Spurs have shown concern over whether or not the Spanish team can afford the deal, and have denied Real’s offer to pay the fee over the six year term of Bale’s contract. Spur want the full payment in three installments, and are even offering a discount on the total fee if the payments are made early. On the other hand, if they fall behind on their payments Real will be hit with a penalty, and an increase will be added to the overall fee.
Bale’s contract is expected to be six years, and worth R135,206,134 a year before tax.
The fee to acquire Bale breaks the R1,272,528,320 record that Cristiano Ronaldo set when he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009.
