A little skim over the comments under the various Gupta TV fail videos, reveals a minority rooting for the presenters – saying it’s not their fault. Blaming rather the production team or the teleprompter operator. To those commentators, I have this to say to you.

NO-ONE CARES

Maybe you’re right, maybe it is because the teleprompter was scrolling too slow or too fast, but quite frankly that has sweet F-all to do with us, the armchair critics. We’re tuning in to a new 24-hour news network. Do you understand the gravity of that statement? Or rather the gravity of investing millions to launch one? Especially one that is not too dissimilar to North Korean television, in that it was created with the sole purpose of distributing government propaganda. You can’t take those kind of risks – hanging your balls out there – unless it’s absolutely perfect. And you know what, shame for those presenters who are either underprepared, inexperienced, or are the brunt of bad production. Again, no-one cares. It’s not a school dorm radio station, angel pie. There are absolutely no allowances for “you did great, hun” or “you’re improving every day.”

GET REAL!

And you know what, it’s not all of them – you can spot the odd pro in there (we emphasise the word ‘odd’), who clearly has a bit of experience and is probably able to overcome a crap teleprompter or a sub-par production team. Nzinga, for one, was great. And she shouldn’t be congratulated. That level should surely be expected on a 24-hour continental news network?

Look, we’re no angels, here at 2oceansvibe, and it kills us that the odd typo sneaks through (as it does on Timeslive, News24, iol, CityPress and EWN). But we’re not a 24-hour news channel, calling itself ‘ANN7,’ which stands for African News Network. A news network setup for Jacob Zuma on behalf of the Gupta family, as an olive branch to apologise for how they got caught using a South African airforce base as their own private landing strip. If you’re doing that and you KNOW everyone will scrutinise your every move and you still screw it up, then I’m afraid you and everyone who chose to be involved in your filthy business, WILL be crucified. It’s the risk you took to feed your naive ego and the ambitions of those poor men and women.

And you didn’t just screw up – you set a new benchmark for the worst live news channel launch ever witnessed on global television, ever. A profoundly horrid projectile of rank amateurish drivel, the likes of which will never be equalled. Think about the fact that 2oceansvibe (and the other aforementioned news website, I’m sure) is filing news items about Gupta TV under ‘entertainment.’ Think about that for a second.

First impressions are everything and Gupta TV, let me tell you right now – your pathetic children’s play-play news channel is your greatest disaster of them all. Gupta-TV is a temple to your misguided arrogance and over-inflated ego and it will only contribute to your eventual downfall.

Well done.

So please, everyone, stop feeling sorry for whoever is getting grilled for being part of something so pathetic. Rather just enjoy it – it’s better than Comedy Central, I swear.
