Videos are emerging online following an alleged poison gas attack outside Damascus on Wednesday. The Huffington Post has reported that the footage can not be independently verified.
A Syrian activist, Mohammed Saeed, said in an interview with the Associated Press:
The visit by the U.N. team is a joke. … Bashar [Assad] is using the weapons and telling the world that he does not care
Saeed is referencing a UN team who visited the region to investigate accusations of previous chemical weapons attacks.
The New York Times reported that a Chemical weapons expert said injuries depicted in many videos “did not appear to be consistent with the effects of a conventional chemical weapon like sarin or mustard gas,” but added that deaths may have been caused by the use of a weaker agent, in a restricted area.
