With a growing number of people calling for the boycott of next year’s Sochi Olympics because of the much criticized anti-gay law which bans anything that could be seen as promoting homosexuality, the victorious Russian relay team marked their win at the 4 x 400m relay at the World Athletics Championship in Moscow with multiple kisses on the winner’s podium.
Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firova kissed after winning on Saturday. The two ladies kissed, and were then joined by two other women on their relay team. This has sparked debate as to whether they were making a political statement, or simply celebrating their win and showing affection for one another.
None of the athletes have released statements, and this brave move could see them face legal action. What do you think? Political statement or sign of affection?
