With the press event due to kick off on 10 September, specification speculation for the iPhone 5S is going mental. But the long-awaited finger print technology is looking more and more like a certainty with every new report.

Nowhereelse.fr, a french blog known for leaking designs and photos of component parts of upcoming Apple products, posted photos comparing leaked shots of the iPhone 5S to previous models. In one photo there is a metal spacer cushion beside the home button which could allow for more components – like a finger print scanner.

Here’s more evidence Apple could be rolling out finger print scanners with the iPhone 5S:

1. Apple acquired AuthenTec in 2012, a company that has published numerous patents describing fingerprint detection technology
2. A developer found a folder called “BiometricKitUI,” in the code for the beta version of iOS7, with this description: “a user being able to swipe the sensor on the iPhone’s home button.”

The evidence seems to be there for this new futuristic component, but Apple could surprise us, we’ll just have to wait and see!
