Cha Ching! The distant family of Huguette Clark, are in talks to secure a portion of her R3 billion fortune.
Huguette was the youngest daughter of former US Senator William Andrews Clark. He was one of the copper kings of Montana, a railroad builder and – get this – the founder of Las Vegas! You can imagine how much money this man had…
In her will, Huguette made it very clear how she wished her fortune to be distributed. It stated that none of her fortune should go to her distant relatives, as she had never met many of them, and seldom spoke to the ones she did.
When Huguette died in May 2011, her will was challenged by 19 of her relatives, obviously. They contend that she was mentally ill and incompetent.
Huguette listed the beneficiaries of her will as a charitable foundation, a hospital, Clark’s multimillionaire private-duty registered nurse, a goddaughter, attorney, accountant, doctor and many employees.
The trial that will set relatives against beneficiaries is scheduled to start on 17 September, but if a deal can be reached within the next month these long lost relatives will be laughing all the way to the bank.
