Tshwane will be the first metro in Africa to be fully covered by wifi within three years – at least, that’s what they say.
Executive mayor, Kgosientso Ramokgopa launched the program on Thursday, and said:
We are investing in the Tshwane child to broaden their platform of opportunities
This new initiative is designed to improve education in the city, with over 200 schools and tertiery education facilities theoretically having full access to the internet. Along with these institutions, wifi will be free and accessible in public places both indoors and outdoors.
How they plan to do this, they have been less keen to say.
