For the last two years Captain Kai’s World has been a highlight for listeners on 2oceansvibe Radio. Broadcast every Wednesday evening from 18h00 to 20h00, the show features interviews with some of the best action sport athletes, photographers and brand managers, always mixed with some fresh and different music selections. Tonight Kai is chatting to big wave surfers, Twig Baker and Frank Solomon.
BONUS: Kai will announce the winners of this awesome competition on his show tonight, which you can still enter, HERE!
Kai was born in Johannesburg, and moved shortly after that to Port Elizabeth, where his love affair with the sea began. One would think losing a father to the ocean it would have deterred Kai, but bizarrely that loss added to his connection with the salty brine. By the age of 6, Kai was bodyboarding, and by the age of 12 surfing had become his passion.
Kai competed in surfing through high school and varsity, while holding together a professional rugby career at Stellenbosch and the Boland. Kai has judged on the Pro Tour, filmed surfing, written about it, watched the Pro tour evolve and now talks about surfing as a beach commentator (SA Champs/RVCA Pro Junior), webcast commentator (Billabong Pro Jbay) and presenter for television coverage (Billabong Pro Jnr Series).
Snowboarding is Kai’s second love. He has served as the SA Snowboarding Head Judge and Quiksnow SA Champs commentator. Over the years, Kai has also moved into FMX, BMX and skateboarding, and this year was the MC and commentator for Ultimate X and the Mountain Dew Bootcamp Tour.
