Mmmm delicious. At an institute in the Netherlands, cells from a cow were converted into strips of muscle, which were then ground together to form a burger patty. The burger was cooked and sampled at a news conference in London, where some food experts said the lab-grown burger tasted like a cow-gleaned burger, while others said it was not as juicy.
Food researcher Ms Ruetzler tasted the burger, Ruetzler explained:
I was expecting the texture to be more soft… there is quite some intense taste; it’s close to meat. The consistency is perfect, but I miss salt and pepper.
Mr Schonwald, a food writer explained:
The mouthfeel is like meat. I miss the fat, there’s a leanness to it, but the bite feels like a conventional hamburger.
Sadly for geeks everywhere, it will be a while before you can purchase lab-grown burger patties at your local supermarket.
